Cardiology Update is an annual continuing education conference for physicians and clinical professionals. Dr. Carl Gessler, Jr., founder of the event, serves as the conference director.  This year’s event will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. at the Huntsville Hospital Dowdle Center.

Featured speakers include experts in the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, including Carl J. Gessler, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.C.;  Scott Allison, M.D.; Michael M. Butler, M.D., F.A.C.C.;  Evan S. Cohen, M.D.; Howard Eisen, M.D., FACC, FACP; Mihir Kanitkar, M.D.

Featured Speakers:

Carl J. Gessler, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.C. – Course Director
Dr. Gessler is a Clinical Associate Professor for the Internal Medicine Program at the School of Primary Care, University of Alabama School of Medicine/Huntsville Program. He specializes in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiology as well as cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular ultrasound. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. He practices at Heart Center, Inc., Huntsville, Alabama.

Scott Allison, M.D.
Dr. Allison is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases. His clinical interests include cardiac device therapy, invasive electrophysiologic studies, and catheter ablation of arrhythmias with a special interest in catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation. He is in private practice at Heart Center, Inc. Huntsville, Alabama.

Michael M. Butler, M.D., F.A.C.C.
Dr. Butler practices at Heart Center, Inc., Huntsville, Alabama. He completed training in Interventional Cardiology from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He is board certified in both Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.

Evan S. Cohen, M.D.
Dr. Cohen specializes in cardiothoracic surgery. He is board certified in both General and Thoracic Surgery. He serves as Co-Medical Director of the S.E. Lung Alliance. He practices his specialties at Huntsville Cardiothoracic Surgeons in Huntsville, Alabama.

Howard Eisen, M.D., FACC, FACP
Dr. Eisen is chief of the Division of Cardiology at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is affiliated with Hahnemann University Hospital. His areas of expertise include heart failure and heart transplant care, mechanical circulatory support, ventricular assist devices and coronary artery disease.

Mihir Kanitkar, M.D.
Dr. Kanitkar practices at Heart Center, Inc., Huntsville, Alabama. He completed training in Interventional
Cardiology from Emory University, including a dedicated twelve month fellowship in Structural Heart Disease. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Echocardiography, Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology.
