Donor Spotlight:
Dr. and Mrs. Jack Gleason
Using their time, talents and resources to help cancer patients
“As a community, we are blessed to have the enormous resources of the Huntsville Hospital network across North Alabama. We can thank previous generations of donors for helping make that possible. It is our responsibility to continue that legacy for the future of all patients across our region.”
As a practicing radiation oncologist in Huntsville for nine years, Jack Gleason, MD, knows the positive impact that Huntsville Hospital and its network provide to our community. And he has witnessed how many of the ever-expanding resources available in North Alabama are supported by Huntsville Hospital Foundation, which drew him to the cause.
“When we moved to Huntsville in 2013, we immediately were drawn into some of the HHF charitable events,” Dr. Gleason said. “In addition to financial support, my wife Margaret worked on various committees for some of these events, including Swim for Melissa and the BMW Brunch. She also volunteered in the Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children’s gift shop. Over time, we just continued to grow our financial support as we saw the positive impact of the Foundation in our community.”
Because of his background and expertise, Dr. Gleason has an affinity for supporting cancer patients.
“We particularly support Hospice and the Dr. Jean Shepherd Fund through HHF,” he explained. “Both help the cancer patients in our community, and I have seen first-hand their benefits. The Hospice Family Care program has grown significantly in my time here. They continue to add new palliative care doctors, have built a beautiful inpatient facility, and offer the resources of the Caring House for grieving children. The Dr. Jean Shepherd Fund supports patients with non-medical needs (gas vouchers, utility bills, food, etc.) while they are undergoing radiation treatments.”
Through his generous contributions to these areas, Dr. Gleason became an inaugural member of the Foundation’s White Coat Society, a physician group that is recognized for investing in improving the quality of patient and medical care of our growing community.
We are deeply appreciative that the Gleasons continue to give to the Foundation through their time, talent and resources. Their gifts combine with so many others to provide technology, facilities and resources to meet the needs of tomorrow.
