Wanda Alexander battled Parkinson ’s disease until the amazing age of 92. In early November 2023, she was admitted for a brief hospital stay at Huntsville Hospital, then allowed to go home under hospice care.
Wanda seemed determined to live through Thanksgiving, when 63 people – all but a few members of her family – were to gather in celebration.
She did, in fact, make it to Thanksgiving, where she greeted everyone and even led a prayer. She returned to her home and passed away peacefully just a few days later.
Her daughters heard her compliment the Hospice Family Care nurses often. Wanda noticed that whenever they came, they brought items that made her life easier. One nurse heard her say how cold she was and knitted her a cap to wear. Wanda repeatedly instructed her daughters, Karen and Kathy, to find a way to make a donation.
Karen and Kathy fulfilled their promise to their mother, generously donating funds from their share of their mother’s estate. Huntsville Hospital Foundation was pleasantly surprised by this special gift for Hospice Family Care in loving memory of Wanda Alexander, which will be used to care for future patients and families.
